The Swales Bit provides the effect of a double bridle but in a simpler design. It can be ridden with two reins: one on the normal ring for a soft contact, and the other on the lower ring to achieve the double bridle effect. The Swales features loose rings for attaching the cheek pieces, allowing the rein action to specifically affect the lower jaw. It is used in combination with a curb chain and is often supplied as such. The baby Swales features a shorter shank than a regular Swales giving it a smaller leverage effect on the poll.
